S.H.E.C.

The Safety, Health, Environmental Community (SHEC) department is comprised of managers and specialists that understand train and have ownership of systems and processes that affect our employees, the community and our environment. Each team member has specific skills that are integrated into the department to provide efficient, accurate and responsible leadership to each facility and each employee. In general terms the SHEC Department performs the following services:

Safety & Health

Safety & Health personnel are responsible for transferring ownership of personal safety not just to the individual, but to the entire work force as a team. They manage our safety program by:

  • Performing job hazard/ observation behavioral  analysis to identify potential unsafe acts or working conditions
  • Evaluating PPE and structural improvements needed to protect employees
  • Training initially, whenever new hazards are identified and provide refresher courses when required
  • Investigating accidents, near misses and equipment damage to find root causes and resolve potential problems
  • Involve line employees and managers alike to improve safety and make it a team effort

Environmental

SA Recycling helps ensure the entire recycling process is clean and efficient, which hinders potentially harmful elements from entering into the environment.  Metal recycling actually reduces pollutants, eliminates significant manufacturing and mining waste and contributes to an overall greener planet.  Our environmental personnel review existing regulations, read pending legislation and convey environmental laws to determine how they apply to SA Recycling.  We firmly believe we sponsor some of the finest environmental programs in our industry and our compliance history speaks volumes.  Our environmental division trains personnel and manages:

  • Hazardous waste
  • Universal waste including
    • Appliances
    • Freon recovery
    • Tires
    • E-waste
    • U-wed
    • Vehicle de-pollution
  • Radiation Systems
  • Air quality
  • Stormwater

Community

SA Recycling feels community responsibility is a vital part of our company’s civic duty.  Providing local jobs helps support and maintains the infrastructure of the cities we do business in.  We sponsor many programs that help to ensure the health and well-being of not only our employees, but also their families. In addition, we continue to support local law enforcement, fire departments and various non-profit humanitarian groups.  SA Recycling strives to maintain or, in some cases, improve the quality of life of those we share the community with.
